DECT Phones, Bleeps and Pagers
DECT Phones

Now that bleeps are entering retirement here at Rotherham, DECT phones have been chosen as the way forward.

On most attachments at Rotherham you will be in pairs and in most cases will share a DECT phone between you. Please look after it as it costs a lot of money to replace! Don't forget to give it back at the end of the attachment.

How long the batteries in a DECT phone will last depends on how much you use them, but it’s normally a couple of days. Bring them back to the Undergraduate Office for charging, it will usually need an overnight charge if the batteries are totally flat.

You use the DECT phone just like any other normal phone in the hospital.

One use of the DECT is to enable a member of the Clinical Team to contact you if a teaching opportunity arises that they think would be of benefit to you. So make people aware of your DECT and give them your number (on the bottom of each phone).

Using the Bleep System

Some departments, such as Obs & Gynae and Rheumatology, have asked that we still issue students with a bleep whilst attached to their team. You may also need to contact another member of staff who is still using a bleep, so here’s how to do it…

Dial 7411...

A welcome message will tell you what to do...

You dial the bleep number required and then the extension number you are phoning from...

Wait for the next finishing message to end and then replace the handset of the telephone.

Pagers

Not all staff carry bleeps. Some carry pagers that have coverage outside the hospital as well. Phone switchboard (dial 0) and ask them to page the person concerned.
