Phase 3b - Acute / General / Specialties
Phase 3b is a section of your training that provides exposure to a very wide range of medicine and numerous clinical scenarious for you to engage with and learn from. Rotherham Hospital provides attachments for 3 out of the 5 modules within this block (the 2 not covered at Rotherham but provided elsewhere being Community and Palliative Care and the Elective).

Acute and Critical Care

A total of 8 students will be on attachment for this module at any one time. During this module you will be based for half of your time in A+E (Dr Daniel Stephenson) and the other half in anaesthetics (Dr Pete Matthews). Both of these consultants have been closely involved in the design of your attachment. You will learn some of the skills that an A+E doctor needs to know by shadowing A+E SHOs and some of the skills used by an anaesthetist. However, they will not be training you in becoming a doctor in A+E or an anaesthetist as the aim of the module is that you get some understanding in recognising and treating the acutely ill patient in whatever area of the hospital they are. The opportunities available to you in your timetables include -
Essential viewing for all docs...
Clinical skills - venous cannulation, ivs, airway management, suturing etc
